I own a MikroTik L009 router and I was surprised that connecting a USB 3 drive to its USB 3 port kills its 2.4 GHz WiFi completely. While it might sound like superstition, USB 3 interference is a known issue.
If you don’t need the range that 2.4 GHz allows and if you don’t have any devices that don’t support 5 GHz WiFi, you could try disabling 2.4 GHz on your router entirely. That way, you devices won’t try to connect to the 2.4 GHz WiFi that’s suffering from this kind of interference. The MikroTik L009 that I own came without 5 GHz WiFi so I can’t do that.
There’s a mention on reddit that using a USB 2 cable forces your drive to run at a lower speed thus preventing the interference. But lets put that aside as a last ditch effort.
I have 3 unused USB 3 cables that fit my SSD enclosure. All 3 of them despite being thinner seem to have better shielding or are doing something that the shorter and thicker cable that came bundled with the SSD enclosure doesn’t. I tested all 3 of them - 2 unbranded and 1 Samsung - and the WiFi seems to be working without issues (the SSD enclosure was always put in the same spot near the WiFi router).
Try using a different USB 3 cable if possible as it might mitigate the interference entirely.
